My letter to the LA Times

The link I’ve provided goes to an article written in the LA Times by Rosa Brooks. In the article she attacks the War on Terror. I’ve pasted my comment below the link.

    Well said my man. This lady no doubt believes the monsterous butchers who attacked Mumbai, are “Militants” or “Gunmen”. Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/”Neocons” on the other hand are no doubt viewed by people like her as the ‘real’ terrorists.She may not call them such publicly, but at cocktail parties or iin the newsrooms – I’d be shocked if she didn’t join in – or nod approvingly as others did it

    We have it so good in the West and yet so many of our fellow citizens have been taught to hate Western Culture. It’s understandable… if you obsess on a country’s negatives and blow them up as far as you can all the while ignoring all the warts of other countries, it’s not a surprising conclusion. I started undergrad in ’89 and after a year, I despised this country. I mean I hated it and proudly called myself a Socialist. Fortunately I pulled my head out of my ass by my Junior year 😉 But my point was, back then it was already getting bad and now it’s just a joke. American Universities are one of the few places Socialism’s disasterous history is not only ignored but glamorized. Simultaneously, they ignore all the good that is Western Civilization. Islam hates the West and Hates the US so there’s a natural affinity between the Intellegencia and militant islam. For now anyway… if Islam got any real power, Prop 8’s results would look like a walk in the park. And if “Activists” went in and attacked/disrupted Mosques, the results would be a little differen than how the Mormon’s responded.

    I know I got a litttle off the subject by it’s related. Mrs Brooks epitomizes this whole insanity and your response was excellent. You were calm and precise and right to the point – so I doubt she’ll respond, after all there’s really nothing she can say that’s “True”. If she does she’ll engage in some equivalency and act like the Gitmo detainees or handful of people who experienced Rendition are the ‘same’ as Mumbia, 9/11 and everything else.

    It’s a fucked up worldview when you think a guy like Bush, who’s 60 days from being a civillian is one of the biggest threats you face and Guys like Zawahiri are just mad about our ‘barbaric’ foreign policy.

    Like always though, your posts remind me that there’s still pleny of sanity left in the world – Sanity just doesn’t run it’s mouth all the time and isn’t en vogue in newsrooms or college campuses.

    Excellent comment, Bill.

    If you go to the article and read all of the comments, the commentors are overwhelmingly against Brooks’ version of reality….

    Brooks has a great soundbite, but as always without specifics.

    It is the 90 second synopsis of what we should do and has no value.

    What does she think we are currently doing?

    She sounds like the angry executive who is pissed that the company’s bottom line isn’t better;

    Exec to manager, “What are all these people doing in this office all day, with our company’s resources?”

    “Working, sir.”
